Manage Filtering for Wi-Fi Networks

Manage Filtering for Wi-Fi Networks

Sometimes, a Wi-Fi network may prevent Netspark from working properly. This is most common with school or work networks, or places that use strict firewalls (such as universities, airports, or hospitals). On such networks, Netspark may not be able to connect to its servers, causing browsing issues or leaving your internet unprotected.

To solve this, Netspark now lets you manage filtering per Wi-Fi network — including excluding problematic networks from filtering.

When Will You See the Notification?

You’ll see a network issue detected notification if:

  • Internet works, but Canopy servers cannot be reached.

  • Filtering is not working normally.

  • This network hasn’t already shown 3 notifications today.

  • You didn’t select “Don’t ask me again on this network.”

Notification text:

Network issue detected for this Wi-Fi.
This connection may be unprotected or limited.

 What Are Your Options?

When you click the notification, you’ll see:

1. Get Help from Your Organization’s IT Team

If you’re on a school or work network, contact IT. They can configure Netspark correctly.
View Setup Instructions

2. Switch to a Different Wi-Fi Network

Try another Wi-Fi connection where Netspark filtering works normally.
Open Wi-Fi Settings

3. Manage Filtering on This Network

Customize filtering per Wi-Fi network.

  • Continuing without filtering requires administrator approval.

  • You may check the box “Don’t ask me again on this network.”

 Manage Wi-Fi Filtering

When selecting Manage Wi-Fi Filtering, you’ll see a list of networks:

  • Each network is marked as Filtered or Unfiltered.

  • The toggle switch reflects the current state:

    • Filtered → Toggle ON

    • Unfiltered → Toggle OFF

  • Turning filtering OFF requires:

    • Admin password

    • Confirmation popup

  • Turning filtering ON also requires admin password.

  • Problematic Wi-Fi networks are highlighted, with a suggestion to exclude them.

Important: To display and manage Wi-Fi networks, Netspark requires access to Location Services on Windows.

  • If location permissions are disabled, you’ll see a notification prompting you to enable them.

  • Make sure both Location Services and the option to let apps & desktop apps access location are turned on.

  • Without this, Netspark cannot show or manage your Wi-Fi networks.

 Where to Find This Feature

You can access Manage Wi-Fi Filtering in two ways:

  1. From the notification popup.

  2. Anytime through the Netspark app:

    • Open the app from task bar (often in the hidden tray)→ Netspark logo → Troubleshoot Wi-Fi Networks
